Dr. Cheema
Dr. Cheema is a native Montrealer currently working as a tertiary care subspecialist in Cornea, External Disease and Keratorefractive Surgery with an academic appointment as Assistant Professor at McGill University in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Dr. Cheema graduated from McGill University from the Faculty of Medicine (MD CM) as both a Faculty and University Scholar receiving awards in academic excellence (given to top 5 graduates) and serving as Class President. He completed his Residency at McGill University in Ophthalmology serving as Chief Resident and going on to Fellowship training in Cornea, External Disease and Keratorefractive Surgery in Boston Massachusetts with Cornea Consultants at Harvard Medical School.
Upon returning to Montreal Dr. Cheema was immediately brought on staff as a subspecialist at McGill University, the University of Montreal and the University of Sherbrooke. Dr. Cheema has developed an excellent clinical reputation in more than 20 years of practice. He has been recognized for excellence in clinical and surgical teaching with 12 Departmental, University and National awards including Specialist of The Year for the Province of Quebec awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Cheema’s clinical interests includes:
- Corneal transplants
- Corneal infectious disease
- Ocular trauma, anterior segment reconstruction
- Pediatric cornea and external diseases
- Ocular surface reconstruction, neoplasms/tumors
- High risk cataract surgery
- Refractive surgery and complications (LASIK, PRK, SMILE)
Dr. Cheema currently holds a Quebec and Ontario medical license, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCS) and is Board Certified in Ophthalmology in the United States (ABO). He is currently an attending staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal General Hospital, Jewish General Hospital, Montreal Children’s Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and Lachine General hospital. He also operates at the Montreal Eye Institute, as well as PreciLaser.
